The secret diary of an election photographer - Day 4

Another early start (4.30 in my case) for a flight to Cardiff to launch the Welsh campaign with Jenny Willott the Lib Dem candidate in Cardiff Central. Jenny took us to an extra care housing scheme where Nick met lots of residents and chatted about the facilities and activities they have there. One of the residents said that the most popular activity was the knitting circle - which she referred to as 'stitch and bitch' - a term that really excited the journos.

Nick took a tour of the building and chatted with one resident who was taking the chance of having her hair done. I don't think she bargained on the invading press crew.

During the interviews afterwards, local journo Nick Speed produced a box of the special election crisps produced in Wales by the real crisp company. Nick was invited to pick a bag and carefully dug to the bottom to find the yellow bag.

Then it was off to Solihull for a visit to the CAB with Lorely Burt. Nick chatted about some of the increasing problems that they face with the economic recession.

Nick also gave a stump speech to a gathered horde of party activists in the sunshine.

And then on the plane to Leeds for a visit to the Leeds Rhinos -about which I'll post later.
