The secret diary of an election photographer - Day 7

A press conference, a visit to a school holiday club and some homework mon the train for Nick Clegg today.

First up was the launch of the Party's tax plans at a press conference with Vince Cable. At the heart of the campaign is the plan to raise the basic tax allowance to £10,000.

As Nick put it:

Under our plans, a husband and wife where only one is working will gain £700. Under the Tory plans this will be just £300.

Under our plans, a husband and wife where both are working will gain £1400. Under the Tory plans they will gain nothing.

Then it was onto a train to Northampton to meet up with Northampton North candidate Andrew Simpson for a visit to a school holiday club. Nick chatted with pupils and parents and met up with a father and his two week old baby. No, Nick didn't kiss the baby!

Finally, on the train back to London, Nick was able to do some work building up to the first of the leaders' debates this Thursday.

This evening Nick is being interviewed by Jeremy Paxman for Newsnight. I understand that Nick is the only one of the leaders to agree to this interview. The others have refused to take part in similar questioning.
