75 years of Jubilee Pool Penzance - UPDATED

This year is the 75th anniversary of the Jubilee Pool in Penzance. This art deco lido is a magnificent structure and rightly deserves to be commemorated. The event of June 12th will include art shows and exhibitions, music, fashion and performances.

But whilst we celebrate Jubilee Pool, spare a thought for those in Launceston struggling with our own leisure centre. Built in the 1970s, the building has been repaired since then, but barely updated. Whilst Bude has the magnificent Splash centre, Launceston's leisure centre is a sad place. The staff there do a good job with what they have, but it's hardly inspiring.

If Launceston is to attract more tourists, one of the things we need is a decent leisure centre. Our current venue is not going to attract a single extra visit.

UPDATE - The original post made reference to anecdotal reports of cold water temperatures at the Launceston pool. I've been in touch with the centre manager who has reassured me that the temperatures at the pool are monitored closely and, with one exception, have not fallen below the norm - which is 29 degrees. Indeed, the problem has been that pool temperatures have risen too high on a number of occasions which risks condensation problems.
